Northfield Roasters has agreed to buy Harbour & Pine. The deal adds six cafés and a 30-kilogram (66-pound) production roaster.
Both companies are independent. Neither disclosed the price. The sale is expected to close in January.
Why the deal makes sense
Northfield wholesales to about 90 cafés. Harbour & Pine runs its own shops and sells little wholesale. Together they cover three cities with little overlap.
Harbour & Pine’s founders said they wanted a partner who would protect the team. All staff keep their jobs.
We did not want to sell to someone who would change the coffee.
What changes for customers
Both brands will keep their names and menus. Northfield will move some roasting to the Harbour & Pine site to cut freight costs.
Prices will not change at close, the companies said. Loyalty cards will work in all shops.
Deals like this are growing as small roasters face higher costs. Expect more of them.
